The Consumer Pole

The ‘Consumer’ Pole is dedicated to the study of food choices and consumption behaviors.

✔️ DESCRIPTION OF THE AXIS and SPECIFIC IMPLICATIONS:

 

➡️ The actors of the “Consumer” pole are particularly active in the field of support for public policies. They have thus produced numerous works in support of the development of nutritional labeling, associating research in nutritional epidemiology (based on the Nutrinet consumer panel), behavioral studies based on experimental economics work (PF experimental) and evaluations of the nutritional quality of the offer of processed products (PF Odalim).

➡️ Other research has aimed to evaluate the impacts of nutritional taxes put in place by public authorities (e.g., soda taxes) or to measure the environmental impacts of food and nutritional recommendations developed by public health authorities.

➡️ The actors of the Consumer pole can also offer services towards private actors. This is precisely the case for experimental studies focused on consumption behaviors and the analysis of consumer trade-offs in view of new food innovation pathways.

 

✔️ The services offered by the “Consumers” Pole of the CALIS infrastructure:

 

➡️ Access to a network of interoperable databases covering all aspects of food (composition and consumption of food, characterization of packaging, impact of processes…)

➡️ Exploration of human eating behavior:

  • Evaluation of consumption, monitoring of food intake and choices, sensory evaluations;
  • Cerebral integration of multi-sensory food signals and their impact on preferences and eating behaviors;
  • Evaluation of the distribution of the determinants of food consumption between economic factors (price, income), socio-demographic and others.

 

✔️ The CONSUMER Pole mobilizes three types of devices dedicated to the collection and exploitation of data on the eating habits of consumer panels, in connection with their environment, their physiology and their health:

▶️The Experimental economics platform of the applied economics laboratory of Grenoble (UMR GAEL) (Plateforme d'économie expérimentale du laboratoire d'économie appliquée de Grenoble)

▶️ The Team Determinants of eating behavior during life, relationships with healthfrom the Center for Taste and Food Sciences (UMR CSGA - Dijon) (Equipe Déterminants du comportement alimentaire au cours de la vie, relations avec la santé)

▶️ The Nutrinet-Santé study, carried out by the nutritional epidemiology research team (EREN) (équipe de recherche en épidémiologie nutritionnelle)
