DIGEST-IV

Digestive Environment Simulation

Digestive Environment Simulation

▶️ The in vitro digestive environment simulation technical platform DIGEST-IV is one of the components of the CALIS Food Pole. The DIGEST-IV technical platform is backed by the UMR MEDiS - Microbiology Environment Digestive Health - formed between INRAE and UCA - University Clermont Auvergne -, and in interaction with the Animal Nutrition Business Unit of Lallemand Company (food additives for farm animals).

▶️ Following a grouping of expertise operated via UCA PARTNER, the DIGEST-IV technical platform is also one of the two components, with the Nutrition Exploration Unit (UEN) of the CRNH Auvergne (cf. CRNH Network of the CALIS Health Pole), of the Integrated Research Platform in Human Nutrition and Mobility - PRIMUM. This PRIMUM interaction allows to group in a very complementary way the simulation capacities of the in vitro digestion processes of DIGEST-IV to the in vivo clinical studies of the Nutrition Exploration Unit (UEN).

▶️ The DIGEST-IV platform implements in vitro experimental devices to study, in different environments, the fate of food or microorganisms during digestion at the level of the upper tract and colonic fermentation at the level of the lower tract.

▶️ In particular, the dynamic models TIM1 (TNO1 Intestinal Model) and ESIN (Engineered Stomach and Small Intestine) are used to simulate gastrointestinal digestion. The INFOGEST consensus protocol is also implemented in the context of static digestion studies (screening). The simulated models are those of humans or monogastric animals (pig, piglet, dog).
